Context

Exael is a Berlin-based musician. I was asked to design a cover artwork for their new LP 'Ice That Melts The Tips' that has been released under the label, 3XL.

Challenge / Solution

With a mission of defining their rough and cyber yet contemporary music styles as a visual form, I conceptually blended and reinterpret early 2000s aesthetics and graffiti font. I initially hand-drew and then rendered the font to craft an original identity. Overall melting ice texture is inspired by the album title. The mechanical shapes and repeated figures impart a futuristic essence that complements the musical themes. To add a detailed playful factor as a physical vinyl medium, the inner record sticker and the outer cover are connected through line decoration and they can be puzzled together as one image.
